Hi!

I’m Mal, a freelance B2B copywriter, ghostwriter and content strategist based near York. I work with technology companies, self-starters, and growing e-commerce businesses that need to explain their products, share their expertise, and make a convincing case for what they do.

I’ve spent more than a decade working across journalism and marketing. So I know all about getting into a subject with people who know it inside out, asking the right questions, and finding the details that make it interesting to someone else.

That might be the life-saving difference a drone makes to a search and rescue team, or an expert’s perspective on the future of the space industry.

Understanding your business and industry properly and being openly curious is where all great writing starts.

A background in journalism and technical storytelling

My journalism has appeared in the Financial Times, Sifted and in many specialist publications related to drones and emerging technologies. That time spent reporting has shaped how I approach commercial writing. I like to investigate the subject, question the claims and give the reader something worth their attention.

For DJI Enterprise, I’ve written a series of case studies and technical guides about drone technology in public safety, conservation and industry. For Slingshot Aerospace, I’ve developed executive thought leadership on space sustainability, satellite operations and artificial intelligence.

This work often involves bringing together specialist research and interviews with the people closest to the subject. The challenge is then to make that material accessible while preserving the expertise that gives it substance.

I’m particularly interested in technology with a practical impact on conservation and public safety, where a customer’s experience will really reveal why innovation matters.

Digital marketing & voice development

Alongside more technical writing, I’ve led content operations and worked on the everyday decisions that shape a business’s marketing strategy.

As Content Lead at Travelshift’s Guide to Europe, I managed writers and editorial processes, producing hundreds of destination guides and articles. My more recent work with GolfBays and Zen Maitri has spanned content strategy, e-commerce, and email marketing.

That experience informs the questions I ask before a project begins. Who needs this content? What do they need to understand? Where does it fit into their decision to enquire, subscribe or buy?

All of which means I can help you answer those questions and shape the strategy, and deliver the content that drives sales.

Working with me

Many clients come to me for case studies, executive ghostwriting and substantial articles that need research and interviews. Others need an ongoing content partner to help plan their strategy, develop their messaging and maintain editorial standards.

Whatever the case, we’ll start with a conversation about your business and the people you want to reach. From there, I work with you to establish the angle, gather the evidence and develop what comes next.

You can explore examples of that work in my portfolio.

Away from the desk

I moved from London to York in 2021 and work with clients across the UK and internationally.

Outside work, I play and volunteer at York Tennis Club. I’m also a huge foodie, an addicted chess player, and an aspiring psychotherapist.
